Meaning five colors, Benjarong is heavily decorated porcelain that reflects the majesty of Sino-Thai art. Intricately hand decorated these pieces depict symbols associated with the Royal House of Thailand. Benjarong was once the sole privilege of the royal family.
Created for us by a family in Bangkok, our collection of covered mugs with saucers is made from the finest porcelain available. Each piece is created through an intricate and labor-intensive process where hand-applied real 22K gold masks are laid over white ceramic. Each color is then applied and fired.
This many-stage process is repeated until all five to eight colors have been added. Over-glazing creates a swelling effect enabling the artist to produce a detailed tactile pattern. The firing process brightens the colors of the finished piece adding to its beauty.
Although designed to be used everyday Benjarong is as fragile as any fine porcelain. We recommend hand-washing gently with mild soap and water. Please do not put these works of art in the dishwasher or use any rough scrubbing material to clean.
We find our signature teas taste even more delicious in one of these beautiful mugs.
